Ever Paint a Euro skull for a mount?
« on: April 09, 2013, 07:59:29 AM »
I am trying to figure out the coolest way to Euro my moose... I am going to create some sort of pretty cool pedestal or wall hanging for it...

Considering painting it with a bronze colored paint. Or hitting it with one of those textured, marbelized type looking paints.

Then again, another cool idea would be to faux age it like Charlie did with the antelope euro and have it on a pedestal... I could handle that... Just tossing some ideas around.

I have an idea for a wall mount and having it mounted on an articulating arm of sorts that a person could rotate, raise and lower... in order to change the view of the rack.

Thanks from snowy Montana this morn...

Ernie

Since you asked.....I really don't think the painting or texturing will look as cool as the classic euro or the aged.

Before I knew how to bleach them, I painted one white and it turned out amazing.  You can't tell the difference between that one and others taht have been bleached as they are hung on the wall.  Paint adheres to the bone really well.

If I had the time, I'd do what my dad did on a whitetail skull. He ended up epoxying shards of abalone shell to the whole thing, then polishing it... it was bad ass... I should try and get a pic...

There "may" come a time that I go ahead and find me a cape and have Charlie mount him, but it will be several years at least.... Until then... I want to do something cool with the skull/head.

Thanks!

Yeah, I think the white would work fine... althoughI would try to make it a less shiny/glossy type paint. I am mostly thinking about something else, though, something more decorative...

Thanks all!

yeah its gloss unfortunately but its what i had atm, its up about ten feet so its not too big a deal and hopefully next year when i shoot a bigger buck it will get moved up another 5 feet anyhow, at that height they all look pretty similar after a few years of dust

biggest thing i like about paint is you dont need to worry bout grease

right on... Well, at some point I will put pics up of whatever I end up doing... Have a bow or two to finish up before I can spend time doing this anyways!
