Your Toms talking yet ?

I have been out twice over the past 3 weeks and have found 2 real big toms in a group of 4 toms, 5 jakes, and 10 hens.  But I will be damned if I cant get any of the guys to make a peep !  Crow call, Yote, all the tricks to include the worst, hen and gobble call.  These guys wont budge !  Now granted we just saw bare ground sat, and I think these guys are very slow.  The hens and toms stay in the same area, but the toms are still trying to establish who is boss.  Watched the biggest of the 2 battle it out several times on Sat.  Just hoping they light up pretty soon as the 13th isnt far off.  If they stay silent, I just might have to play by the same rules, and surprise em.

I was on this site long before you were, and I probably have more places to hunt in Wa for turkey than you can come up with in a years time.  I used to live in Wa,  and have a few good friends on here that I have hunted with.  Since moving out of Wa, I have shared many of my places that I hunt turkey with the new guys looking to give it a try.  There are other people on here that do not live in Wa, so be careful what you read, wouldnt want to confuse you.

Just after sunrise I saw a flock of 25-30 birds this morning in southern Stevens county. There was no gobbling at all and I couldn't get them to gobble. They were far enough away that I couldn't tell if any toms in the flock.  I did hear turkeys gobbling in the evening near Eloika Lake in early February. My brother-in-law said they are gobbling at daylight on his place in southern Pend Oreille county.

Hang, has the snow recently melted there ?  We have just now gotten to the 40 degree mark for the second day in a row.   
I will head out Sunday after church, and after my in-laws head home to see if they are acting any different now.  I think with the cold we had they just might have froze their Gobblers off....

Went out and did some scouting the other day. Yep they were talking. Heard em behind the tree reading the turkey regs. Assuring me my thoughts on why the toms dissapear before opening day. I think we need to get the game dept to drop fake flyers near the strut zones, stating that turkey season is delayed. Think it might work?

We have had some real nice weather, high 60's and not freezing at night. Today is colder but still high 50's. The snow has melted on most open areas and south slopes. I still have not heard a gobble on my morning walk. I did hear the flock very excited in the woods this morning about 6:30am. I clucked and two coyotes came into the field. They must have been chasing them. I normally would hear gobblers at sunrise in more than one direction. We have turkeys in my area, but nothing like the numbers of a few years ago. The two hard winters and two very wet springs have reduced the number of birds.

We wake up to gobbling turkeys in the morning. Turkeys have been gobbling for more than a month here, big toms have been henned up for 2 to 3 weeks strutting hard. Saw a nice gobbler with no hens at 3pm today, he was gobbling his head off, I have plans for him, he will call super easy I'm sure. Got another 10 incher lined up with a brush for a beard, he has hens but I've got him patterned.

They are gobbling strutting here. They have been gobbling on the roost for a while.

Dale, I never doubted you as you always have some great places.  Problem I have is getting up early enough on the weekend to make it to the ranch to see if they are active on the roost. But i will have to do it soon. Only 8 days left.

Are you coming here to hunt, if you are the birds should be talking good. There are not as many birds as there used to be, some areas have far fewer birds but some areas still have good flocks, that area you like to hunt should be fine. The toms that don't have hens are running around looking for hens and gobbling their heads off, should be good calling on the opener this year. GOOD LUCK!

Dale, No I am not comming to Wa to hunt turkey this year.  We are starting a large job on the 15th and will be pretty busy for some time. I will be out on the 13th and 14th hunting here, and then only sundays if I dont get one on the first weekend.

Good luck... hope you are getting used to that country, I worked over there when I was younger, it took me almost a year before I got used to the country and could appreciate it for what it holds.

Dale, when I first set my eyes on this land I never knew how much game these plains held.  One would assume Lope, and Deer. But the Elk, Moose, Lion were not on my radar.   Now the pheasant.......    that is a whole different story !
