A few Blacktail bucks (adding pics as they grow 7/11)
« on: May 19, 2013, 07:25:38 AM »
I've got a few Blacktail bucks coming into my lick, nothing huge but it's always fun to watch them develop.

Nice! What are they lickin'? Elk seem to love my lick but deer walk right by the darn thing.

I've got the area dug up with a mineral lick blend and I have a block of salt there also.  The elk seem to like the block and the deer are licking a mixture of stock salt with trace minerals and brown sugar.  I mix equal parts salt, sugar and water (I boil it to melt it all together) and dump it in the dirt or on a rotten stump and they will dig for every last drop of it.

I have tried to sweeten my licks up, but all it does is attract bears.  I can't use anything sweet in my deer stand  :bash: :bash:.    Be careful if you have a density of bear in your deer area before adding sweet stuff??  Deer seem to disappear when the bears move in.

Looks like It'll be a while before I post up any more pics...Some Jack ### swiped my camera.  I've got it on private property, well posted and not real easy to stumble into.  Ticks me off, last year I had a tree stand ripped off during elk season and now this.  My neighborhood has some real fine characters.

I've got other camera's but I hate to put anything out now, even with a bear box I don't feel comfortable.

The only reason I play around home is for those evenings after work, I'm glad most of my hunting is done in the backcountry where slime buckets like this are too lazy to go.

That sucks, ridiculous that this happens so often even on private property. Put those cams in the wilderness and let me know what ya see  :chuckle:

Maybe I jumped to conclusions, I'm hoping so, this just might be the culprit that took my last camera.  Let's see him or whoever took my camera get through this new setup.  3" square tubing 1/8" wall, 1/8" thick bear box, tamper proof lock all mounted in 120lbs of concrete...at least this will make someone work for it.

I'm not sure how much if any this buck will grow, hopefully at least another point.
