turkey feathers

I am wondering what do you guys do with your turkey feathers?  Besides the tail.  Seems like a waste to discard them.  So many and really pretty.  Can you sell them?

I don't think you get any money for them.  I know a lot of people use the feathers to tie flys for fishing.

I use the primaries to fletch wood arrows...



Not only the feathers from birds I kill myself, but guys send me their turkey wings.  I make them wingbone yelpers and I keep the wing feathers for arrows I build.  A win win situation for all involved.

Great looking arrows TK ...

I also donate a lot of feathers to friends for tying flies and use as decoration on custom made knives, jewelery, etc.

The NWTF also has a ZUNI Feather Program where they donate cleaned feathers to the tribe for ceremonial purposes.

If I mount the tail feathers, I put one wing feather at about 45 degrees and around the base of the tail feathers I put breast feathers to set it all off.

Wing and tail feathers also look real cool when added into flower arrangements.

  real nice arrows  tree killer     we use the feathers for fly's and  crafts  dealing with fur trade era  muzzle loader shooting  great for kids crafts

Thanks fella's! One of my sayings has always been..."life is way too short to hunt with ugly arrows!"  Guys really dig the natural barred fletch on wood arrows, and I grind and process them myself.  A slow process, but the more I do by hand the more rewarding it is in the end.  Alot like tying your own flies for fishing in a way.

Hi Leanne!  I think Jud (257) got me onto this website.  Did I build you a wingbone yelper years ago?  If you want more, just yell and I'll make it happen, have plenty of bones in the freezer looking for a good home.

TreeKiller those are some great looking arrows. 

Anyone needing turkey feathers should send me a pm just before season next year. We kill a lot of birds every spring and quite a few skins and wings get tossed out. I would be glad to save some skins/wings for a H-W member that needs them.
