What does the "T" in Garmin GPS mean
« on: June 28, 2013, 06:40:35 PM »
Shopping for GPS and notice Garmin Oregon and Montana series has a "T" at the end of certain model number. Also noticed those were more expensive as well.  I couldn't find the reason in the description so I figured I would ask. Thanks

I believe it means that it has topo maps preloaded on it.

The "T" means Topo, but they are the 100k topo maps, basically useless for anything but driving roads. Save yourself some money and buy the "s" or "sc" if you think you need a camera. You will want to load some 24k topos anyway.

I bought the 62T a few months ago, awesome GPS but like I said the 100k maps are not very useful, at least for hunting and hiking.

For some models, I thin the "T" means it has a "touch" screen, rather than keys for navigating.  I have the Rhino 650T which does not come preloaded w/maps.  The Rhino 655T does have a touch screen and maps.

Thanks for the great information guys. Looking at Alchase link, the T must stand for topo, as both the 600 and 600t are touchscreens.  it looks like the T model isn't worth the extra $80 bucks. Thanks again.
