Minnesota Charter

I am headed over to Minnesota in late October for a wedding and while the wife is doing wedding stuff, I want to go fishing.  Anyone have any recomendations on charters.  I would like to fish for pike or muskie, but walleye works too.

We'll be stying in the St Paul/Minneapolis area.  But I'm not opposed to drive a bit.

Ok.  Most off the good walleye lakes are up North and i mean way up North.  Like 3 or more hours.  That is where everyone from the cities goes.  I don't know much about charters.  Growing up there we just fished on our own.  Lake milacs might be your closest good lake.  Late October is going to be some tough fishing.  You might be dodging snow by then.  Good luck.  Minnesota has awesome colors in the fall too.

I've gone Musky fishing 3 different summers and yet to land one, the first trip I went with a buddy who lives on Lake Minnetonka near the Twin Cities, but he's really a bass fisherman, we caught lots of Bass & some Northern. On the next trip I went to the Baudett, MN and Hayward, WI areas, we caught northerns and a couple bass, I had a follow up by a musky but he didn't bite. My third trip was last summer I fished for muskies 3 days. One day near Madison with a Musky guide we caught numerous northern, bass, and walleye and I had one Musky hit and on the line momentarily, I can say they are powerful fish compared to the others. The other two days on that trip we fished near Eau Claire and caught everything but Musky.

About 20 years ago I went northern fishing on the north side of the twin cities in a small stream where we could only catch and release, that was the best northern fishing I've seen, we caught 28 northerns in about 2 1/2 hours. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the stream.

They call the musky the fish of 10,000 casts, I think it's true, I've probably only got in a few thousand casts so it may require several more trips to catch a musky.   

I have been contemplating using a guide in the twin cities area next time and maybe on Minnetonka, that buddy who bass fishes it all the time says the Muskies are there. Also there are several catch and release Musky lakes around that area that are supposed to have good fish.

Russ is right about the walleye, all my wife's relatives go up north to fish for walleye. Yes, you might catch a few around the twin cities, but everyone says it's far better up north.

It seems like I've heard October is a good time for muskies. If you find a good musky guide I would like to know his name so I could give him a go on my next musky trip.

I grew up fishing the Great Lakes and all over Michigan and caught many many northern pike & walley but never did land a musky. That is one fish that definately has been elusive to me too Dale

I never fished for musky.  Northern, bass, walleye, crappie.  I grew up on lake vermilion awesome walleye fishing.  I forgot minnitonka is by the cities.  That is a good lake.

My wife has been talking to relatives the last few days, they are all fishing like mad right now, they said the fishing is really hot tight now and have been catching lots of fish near Eau Claire and Hayward, but that's not that far from where you will be. Good Luck!
