New Rig.....7.3 Powerstroke

For my rigs i run a 2 filter system for the fuel. the "normal" spin on and then a 2 Micron after that.

Just out of curiosity, why didin't you dropp a 7.3 in your centurian? Or is that going to be the project for the next owner?

Never crossed my mind.  Mechanically sound and in top shape so I probably would not have wanted to mess with it.  May just keep it and use to pull the boat locally and continue to use as a hunting rig.  Extended boat rips or hunting trips, then I'll take the Excursion.

I saw the ad first thing in the morning it came out.  Was asking $18, but would take $17.  I looked at it that day and agreed to price based on pre sale inspection at the local Ford dealer.   Couple things  were needed.  I said drop it down to take care of the two things needed to sell on a lot according to dealer and we agree on $16,400.  Pretty close to book.

Well worth the original asking in my opinion.  Find a one owner with low miles in top shape....better jump on it.  On lots they are asking way, way over book even with 150k plus miles.  As few as them that turn up...don't think about it.  Get a pre-inspection...cheap insurance to know exactly what you may be dealing with.

Seems like a great deal! It's clean and low mileage for that 7.3. I would love to find a deal like that. Congrats!

A good tuner will wake that 7.3 right up. stay away from the off the shelf tuners Edge, Banks, ect. Go with a custom tune they include transmission tunes. It will save the life of the garbage transmission they put behind 7.3. Look for a TS, Swamps, or tony wildman. The ts 6 position tuner turned my 2000 7.3 into an entirely different machine.

Are you suggesting that the right tuner will improve transmission life?

I have herd that you can change the shift points not making them as "soft" sacrificing ride for power/wear.

Trust me there is only 1 cure for 7.3 auto tranny.  Buy a built one and torque converter.  I built mine up, billet tq, acc. body, shift kit clutches etc. and a 30 year trans. mech. did it.  Did not last 100k.  They will all fail especially if you add any extra power.   I ran an edge and it was good.  Custom tunes are better.

Which is why the stick is awesome, all it needs is a flywheel with out some BS vibration dampener built in...

BTS transmission for these  You'll never need another. I can't remember who but there is a guy down south that is a dealer and installs them. Pierce County I think.
