Change to NWCO Program
« on: July 26, 2013, 04:16:26 PM »
Got this email while I was on Vaca.  More to come from the looks of it.

Stakeholders,

As you know, over the last several years both the Law Enforcement Program and Wildlife Program have been actively working to find better delivery methods for cooperative solutions designed to prevent negative wildlife interactions in Washington State.  Those include, but were not limited to, successfully piloting of deer/elk conflict specialists in Region 3 of Central Washington, as well as the conducting a staff and agency stakeholder review of WDFW’s wildlife conflict policies back in 2007.

This winter Director Anderson approved a proposal that transferred the majority of wildlife conflict management duties from the Law Enforcement Program to the Wildlife Program starting in the 13-15 biennium.  This transfer better aligns agency functions within a single Program and improves the department’s ability to meet the needs of our stakeholders.

Effective Tuesday, July 16, 2013, the following activities will no longer be managed within the Law Enforcement Program:

1.   Damage Claims
2.   I-713 Special Trapping Permits
3.   Black Bear Depredation Permits
4.   Public Safety Cougar Removal Permits
5.   Special Director’s Permits (i.e. agency kill authority, landowner incentive)
6.   The Wildlife Control Operator Program
7.   CITES Tagging
8.   Herder/Hazers
9.   Migratory Bird Reporting

Starting Tuesday, July 16, 2013, I will no longer be your contact person for wildlife conflict coordination and you will need to contact the new Management Analyst, Ralf Schreiner, in the Wildlife Program. Ralf’s telephone and email are still being set up, however you can reach him starting Tuesday by calling the Wildlife Program at 360-902-2515. Once Ralf’s direct phone number and email are set up, he will get that information out to you. In the meantime, if you can’t reach Ralf, please contact:

Stephanie L. Simek
Wildlife Conflicts Section Manager
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife
600 Capitol Way North
Olympia, WA 98501
(360) 902-2476
Email: stephanie.simek@dfw.wa.gov

In order to ensure a smooth transition and reduce impacts on our stakeholders, I will be working closely with Ralf over the next few weeks as he transitions into his new responsibilities.  In addition, once Ralf’s contact information has been set up, I will begin providing that information through my voice mail to help direct you to your new contact within the agency.

If you wish to distribute this e-mail to all affected members and interested parties please do so.

Thank you.
