Noisy/squeaky boots?
« on: August 22, 2013, 01:19:34 PM »
I just bought a pair of meindl's at Cabelas and they are a little squeaky.  I'm just wondering besides breaking them in more, what do you guys do to make the noise go away?

Mine don't squeak anymore at all that I can tell. I greased the crap out of them all over.... applied it extra heavy specifically in the tongue and uppers right around the lace holes and that general area. They would stay quiet for a while, then I'd reapply.

p.s. It is a common issue/complaint with them.

I have custom orthotics and they tend to squeak.  Talcum powder inside the shoe/boot shuts them up right away.

I didn't even ask but thanks for the tip. That is one of my biggest problems with hunting boots.

Oil them.  Wear them around the house doing your routine tasks for a a couple days.  Repeat.  Repeat.  Repeat........until you think you solved the issue.  Then do it again 2 or 3 more times.
My Kennetrek's had a similar issue.  Annoying.  Haven't squeaked since.  A spring oiling, a fall oiling and a post hunting season oiling is what I do now regardless of how much I actually wear them.

x3 for oil them, or bees wax them.

What kind of oil? Bees wax?  Is there a specific brand that's better than the rest?

Pick up Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP from any sporting good store like sportsmans warehouse or cabelas. Best stuff on the market IMO. Good for hunting, waterproofs your boots also, Apply two coats. It has beeswax in the base but is alittle more complex. I love it. Will darken your boots alittle though, and gives them that "Old baseball glove" feel.

You are all awesome.  I saw some of obenaufs stuff at cabelas the other day, but decided to check out what others had to say about it.

I like it alot, I can stomp around in creeks and stuff and It just beads off my shoes. Helps protect and elongate the life of your leather also. It works on leather just like lotion works on your hands. Radsav turned me on to it, good stuff.

I just put a coat on tonight.  That stuff smells awesome.  I'm gonna let it soak in and get to stepping tomorrow.  I hope the squeak is gone.

If you stick it in a big black plastic garbage bag, then just let it lay out in the sun all day. It helps heat everything up and soak into the leather.

And yes, It smells awesome. I was told before I bought it to get my bread ready because I'm gonna wanna eat it :chuckle:

You should be good after the conditioning at least mine where.  Don't give up because once you get past the squeek in my mind they are probably the best boot I have ever had.  My kenetreks are getting close but the perfekts are still amazing and the go to boot..  I wish I could find another set for a good deal...

No squeaks after the 1st coat!  Sweet product.  I'm walking in them more and they're breaking in pretty quick.  Only thing I had against them was the squeak, but now that's gone, I'm good to go.
