Day 2 elk archery no luck
« on: September 04, 2013, 10:39:44 AM »
Hey there everyone! So this is my first post as im brand new to the forum. This is my second year elk hunting and first year with archery. I live out in roy/yelm area off of harts lake road and allen so if anyone knows where that is, that is the land im referencing. Moved out here awhile back and always have elk in the spring to early summer months. Had a couple cows and three satellite bulls coming up to my back porch as of early to mid august. All three were 5x5 and better. Now that the hunting season has started though i see nothing. Hung some elk fire scent wicks in several locations, got some apples in piles, and have found some sheds and older bed locations but cant seem to get an eye on any new animal activity. I even spent a day walking and calling and still nothing. Any help would great! Thanks and love the forum by the way.

Unfortunately no.  :( My budget kinda ran out but im hopin to have some up for rifle season. I know its kind of a stab in the dark without one, especially during archery.

You drew multi-season elk in two years?  Lucky.

Questions:
1.  Do you know where the cows hang out?  You find those cows you will find the bulls.
2.  Have you heard any bugles in the early morning?
3.  Do you have neighbors who archery hunt?  THose archery hunters are sneaky and they can mess with a perfectly good hunting area.

I saw two cows by themselves back around june but that was the last i saw of them. I heard one little what i thought to be bugle this morning around 6am but wasnt quite sure cause i didnt hear anything again after that. There is a neighbor who archery hunts, ive looked for signs of another hunter.. ie tree stands, trail cams, baits, etc but i havent seen anything. Gonna hit it again tonight, quite bein a sissy and hit the thick sticky stuff.
