Shooter using arrows to injure neighborhood deer
Residents says four have been shot at in the past week
Monday, October 27, 2008 11:17 AM PDT

Someone shot a deer with an arrow Sunday near the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Lynnewood Boulevard, causing injuries that required city police officers to euthanize the animal.

Megan Ericks, a nearby resident, said it was the fourth deer wounded or killed by arrows in the past week. The shooter is hitting deer in the hindquarters or gut, which doesn’t kill them immediately. She added the technique is cruel and gives a bad image of other bow hunters.

This is in the Klamath Falls area

not a good thing for the sport for those of us that love it and respect it.
not only is it stupid and wrong to archery hunt when not prepared but to do it so close to the public eye..

now don't get me wrong i'm not attacking any one when i say this.
my guess it is a modern tag holder that hunted most of the season and is now using his dad's old bow or a buddies because they see deer in the restricted area to hunt (local), and thinks he will harvest a deer with it without the practice it takes to become consitant.
this would go either way for someone just to think they can pick up a weapon, either rifle, muzzeloader, or bow and think they can go harvest an animal the same weekend it wrong. JMHO!!

or maybe not even a hunter involved and just a *censored*!!!! >:(

Here's more on the story

Updated: Shooter wounding neighborhood deer with arrows
Officials say deer could survive arrow wounds, depending on location
Wednesday, October 29, 2008 11:47 AM PDT

Posted 4:45 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 28: Deer wounded by arrows can survive for years if they avoid serious infection and aren’t in so much pain they quit eating.

Veterinarian Jon Goodell said survival also would depend on where the animal was hit. “It would be a miserable three to four weeks walling it off but they could do it,” he said. Deer with arrows lodged in their bodies have been seen around the Lynnewood neighborhood near Upper Klamath Lake. Hunting is illegal within the city neighborhood, but is permitted on county land along Lakeshore Drive. Read the full story in Wednesday's Herald and News print edition.

Posted 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28: Deer with arrows lodged in their bodies have become a regular sight near the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Lynnewood Boulevard. City police officers on Sunday euthanized a seriously injured deer with an arrow in its hindquarter, said Detective Mike Anderson, spokesman for the Klamath Falls Police Department. It was the third such incident in the past week and the fourth in the past two months in the neighborhood near the shores of Upper Klamath Lake. The area skirts the boundary between the county, where hunting is allowed, and the city of Klamath Falls, where hunting is prohibited.

Lynnewood resident Megan Ericks said one deer died after an arrow struck it in the gut. Two other deer are still wandering the area with wounds. One has an arrow lodged in its hindquarter while another shot in September was caught and treated by Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for an arrow wound in its upper back.

Bow hunting season for most areas of Oregon ended in September, according to ODFW regulations. Ericks said a juvenile was approached in connection to the incidents, but not arrested.
