Oregon hunt brings rain, wind, and antlers (pics added) (second buck added)

What area were you in? No honey hole info needed, just curious of the area. I used to hunt in the Northside unit east of Long Creek years ago when I lived in Oregon. Last time I was over there, there were getting to be a lot of white tail.

Not sure the unit number but he was around Joseph, Oregon.

Familiar with that area too, around Lostine and Enterprise. Packed into the Eagle cap on horse back a couple times.

Yes, We were hunting out of Joseph, on our family farm.

Saturday evening, My son, Uncle Rick, and I hunted with Cousin Andy, who is 12. We went to an area that has a deep draw surrounded by CRP. Wind was in our face as we approached. I was amazed at the ability of deer to detect danger, as we got to the edge to look down in, a Whitetail buck already had us pegged, and was trotting away, not giving the young hunter a shot worth trying.

I took my wife and kids back to our camp and rode out the first of two nasty storms in our little camper. All was well, and we were rocked to sleep by mother natures winds and the sound of rain beating down on our roof. We were warm and dry, and I though of all the guys who packed into high country sleeping in tents dealing with the storms. It was rough enough at 4400', probably worse higher.

Sunday came, and the deer were tucked in tight, not many deer were seen, and we looked forward to monday, after Andy was out of school.

I My son and I picked up Andy at school, and we were soon making our way for a short hunt before dark. Our plan was to walk the timberline and try to catch a buck coming out to the CRP to feed. We parked our ATVs close to where we wanted to begin our hunt, and we were off. about 10 minutes into our "still hunt", I saw two patches of white down in the shadows of the timber. A quick look with the binos confirmed there were two muley bucks down in the timber. Andy readied the trusty .243, he confirmed he was settled in on the lead buck.......POW! The buck dropped, and we saw four legs appear and dissapear as the buck rolled down the hill out of sight. I sure hoped the buck was down, as I had no idea which way he would have ran. We approached the area where the deer was standing, and soon found a large area of blood, but we were unable to find much blood after that. A quick prayer was said to help us find the deer. We made a 50 yard loop, down hill after about 15min, and we found the buck. Congrats Andy, glad we were there to see you take a fine buck!
