Moultrie D-333 $79.99 any good?
« on: March 09, 2014, 11:24:45 AM »
Cabela's has the Moultrie D-333 on sale March 13-23 at $ 79.99 is this camera any good? I want to replace a old Moultrie that quite I bought it in about 2007. I tried a Tasco and didn't like at all, slow trigger speed and poor pictures. Any other suggestions.

I've heard bad things. But at least if you buy it at Cabelas it will be easy to return. I'd get the refurbished Moultrie M80 from Rogers Sporting Goods for $60 instead, if it were me. (If they're still available)

I see they have the D333 for $69.99.

:yeah: you can get a good refurbished M80 or D55 for that price or less if you look around.

I think Amazon has M80s for 87.99 which is a way better camera

Try and find a camera that takes AA batteries like the m80. You'll be much happier. Check that place bobcat is talking about. Great deal if they have any left.

I don't see the M80 at Rogers Sporting Goods, but they have both the D55IRXT and the L-50 for $69.99.

The D333 still might be worth a try. You can always take it back to Cabelas if it doesn't work right.

 :yeah:
In my opinion, there is no reason to get anything of lesser quality when you can get an M80 for that price.

You're starting to be able to find Bushnell Trophy Cams for a good price too.  The Moultrie M-series cameras and Bushnell Trophy cameras are my personal favorites.

The M80 was my first (good) camera that I never had any issues with.  Very nice to run AAs too, that's a lifesaver  :yike:

:yeah:  My latest Natchez Shooters Supply flyer lists the D-333 ($84.99) but says it takes C-size batteries.  I'd pass--my first Wildview camera takes C batteries, and battery life is dismal.

If you have C batt cams buy a charger and re chargeables...they are not effected by the cols like alkalines and they last quite awhile. We were getting 3 weeks out of them in Nov in single digit to teen temps

All I use in my cameras is rechargeables, and battery life is still 1 week at best.  :dunno:

I echo the AA battery thing!  The c and d batteries just don't last.

It's not that c and d batteries don't last as long as AA's. It just happens to be that most trail cameras that run on AA's are easy on batteries. If those same cameras used C's or D's, they would actually last much longer, because c and d batteries have a lot more capacity.

:yeah:  It would seem that bigger batteries would be better, but they aren't.  :dunno:  My ecaller runs all season on one set of 8 AA batteries, and still work good when I put fresh ones in!
