Western Pheasant Releases?
« on: November 30, 2013, 01:27:46 PM »
So are releases done now?
I thought last one was usually on Thanksgiving.

Went out to an area on Friday around 9:00 and it was as busy as a weekend morning. Had 4 flushes in about 2 hours so I was thinking they planted Friday, Or were they residual from Thursday :dunno:

Anyone who has info care to chime in?

Probably the left over Thanksgiving birds. From The WDFW site-

Releases will take place for the
youth seasons on most of the
sites in late September. We do
not provide other release dates
because we want to minimize
crowding at the release sites and to
promote the highest hunter ethics
possible.

Back when I hunted the release sites and helped with the releasing Thanksgiving was usually the last planned release. That being said a few years the state had more birds and a "light" release happened in the weekend after. Given todays economics I would doubt there are many birds left for later releases. I would guess the activity you saw Friday was left overs from Thanksgiving release, either way get out as many days in as you can. Good luck!

For Whatcom Co. Friday may have been the last release, depending on how many birds they have left.  Usually the night before is the last release.  There should be plenty till they close on the 30th of Nov.  Bummer cause there probably a lot of birds still out there.

What is the logic in the WDFW having the season extended till Dec. 15 on some areas but not others. Since there is no plant I'm assuming that late season is for "cleanup". Why not all areas?

Those extendo hunts are because someone in high places poloticked for it in olympia.................... I agree stupid and wasteful really,if you  don't plant  feed for them to dine on they will never stand a chance,if you don't do anything to try and curb predator population they don't stand a chance.I ain't buying the "funds not available for policing" Near as I can tell little if any policing goes on.I say leave it open till 12/31 with grouse.I've taken my dog on a excersise run during my christmas time off and found multiple birds on multiple outings.

:yeah: So any left over birds up North are coyote bait. But south sound release areas are open as it should be. Politics driving wildlife management AGAIN :bash:
