Hello everyone!  I'd like to announce that the Elk Management group has launched their website.  Check it out!

 

 

 

The Upper Snoqualmie Valley Elk Management Group is pleased to announce its website at snoqualmievalleyelk .org.

On the EMG website you can learn all about the the EMG and what's going on. And for a comprehensive view of the organization itself, see About the EMG.

The website also contains documents and links to other websites with both current and historical information about elk in the region.

If you've recently joined the group or want help recalling what happened at earlier meetings, you can find meeting minutes in the Files section.

We'll be adding and updating some topics, so return often to stay up-to-date. For example, we will soon add or update:

    * Mission statement
    * Guiding document
    * Frequently asked questions

We intend to keep the site up-to-date with the latest decisions of the group and information about upcoming meetings and activities. The website provides links to RSS feeds for news articles and the EMG calendar at the bottom of each page.

The EMG mailing list is a one-way email announcement system that allows us to send out formatted email messages quickly and easily. It is not a community email discussion board, so it's not a way to communicate with other people on the EMG mailing list.

This system supports privacy because each message is addressed only to the intended recipient.

At the October meeting the general membership of the EMG approved a recommendation from the elk management committee that would publicize a method of elk population reduction provided by Washington law.
In areas where local law permits, controlled public hunts can be used to effectively reduce elk populations. Permissible weapons may need to be restricted to perhaps shotguns or bow and arrow. In some instances it may be desirable, or even necessary, to require the hunters to take local orientation courses and/or pass safety and proficiency tests before they are allowed to participate in the hunt. Bow hunting has become the most popular public hunting method in urban elk management.

yeah one of my warden buddies informed me the other day that they are trying to get a damage hunt worked up in the very near future. i tryd my best to sweet talk him into hooking me up with that chance but it didnt work

Truthfully I do not want to shoot the elk that live in the valley between North Bend and Snoqualmie. Hopefully they will establish a muzzeloader permit for those that want to. I'm worried that someone will shoot one and it will run and die in someone's rose garden. Then it would be on the news for a week with pictures of an arrow sticking out of the elk.

yup. i think archery would be a bad way to go about it just for that reason alone. although im a archery hunter aswell and want a shot at one of those big boys in that herd.

Some people complain when they choose to move into the rural areas and there is deer, elk, cougars, etc in their neighborhoods. Hell the animals have more of a right to live there than we do. They say they are beautiful and cute but don't let them eat my roses. What do they expect. They made the choice to live where they do. Snoqualmie ridge community one such example.

I have been requested to hunt in a development by a buddy of mine. I showed him how to shoot a bow and he killed a cow in back of his garage.  His neighbor came out all pissy about killing the elk.  He turned and said if you pay for my 25,000 dollars landscape yard I will not shoot them.   His neighbor did not say anything after that.  But did say if it died on his property he would call the fish and game and the police.  So you are right there will be some stupid SOB that will kill an elk in someone’s front yard which will make all hunters look bad.  But some of his other neighbors want to him to kill one for them.  I told him that would be illegal. Since elk are not stupid if they kill a few cows out of their community the elk will leave that area or only come in when it is dark.  Then the home owners would need to set up proximity sensors for their sprinkler system.
