Euro mount reminder
« on: December 19, 2013, 12:12:06 PM »
I just got 3 of my deer heads back from the Taxi and all 3 had some sort of stain or varnish on the antlers. Right now I'm so P'd off at myself for not telling him to leave them natural. I like having the wood shavings from the scrapes they made and the natural dull finish left on.
This is a reminder to those that may be thinking taking a head in. Tell them what you want and don't assume they do it this way or that. I have seen this guys work and its awesome. I did not think to ask if he left my buddies antlers natural because he requested it.  :bash: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
On a side note he gave me a heck of a deal because of my buddy and they came out really nice.  I will live with it.

FYI, I have used acetone to strip the varnish off horns.  Test a spot in the back of the horns first to make sure it is the desired effect.  Sorry about your disappointment.

I will try a bit of acetone and see if that helps. Don't get me wrong here, I think that anyone who would have recieved these euro's back would be super happy. I am just kicking myself because I prefer the natural antler with no shiny sealer or whatever it is they put on them, my bad for not telling him that.
I guess I am trying to put this out there so that people remember to put their expectations up front when they take something in. Years ago I shot a big mulie on a draw hunt and I had some crazy idea to measure the girth of the neck before I skinned it. I am glad I did because the Taxi said that most guys forget to do that and are sometimes disappointed when the mount comes back without a big swollen neck.
