N. fork of the Stilly
« on: December 23, 2013, 02:33:15 PM »
In the 80's I lived up by Whitehorse. People used to come to the old Fortson hole in droves on Dec 1 to fish the Stilly for Hatchery Steelhead with bait. The river opened to plunkers from Dec. 1 to I think March. I can't find anything in the Regs, is this still a option? The fishings not that good but not being able to walk, there are a couple places I can access. I've been to sick to hunt waterfowl, but I'd like to get out.
The first bird may get the worm, but it's the second rat that gets the cheese.

In recent past it was open....I haven't looked in the last 5 or so years.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

Guess I can always find a accessable sandbar on the lower Skagit. But dang, I used to catch one once in a while plunking the Stilly.

looks like it closes jan. 31st now.  puget sound steelhead were listed under the ESA about 5 years ago and WDFW swung the ax on the seasons for every river that was still open.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

Jan. 31 is better than nothing. When their in they tend to suck up a sand shrimp pretty quick. Never was one to fly fish.
