Old bow... is it any good?
« on: November 19, 2008, 05:34:03 PM »
after mentioning I wanted to pick up bow hunting my father in law gave me his old bow. It is an old wooden Browning compound bow. I have no idea of the specs but the draw weight seemed pretty light. Will this bow satisfy my needs or will I need to upgrade. Well let me rephrase this I would like a newer bow but feel bad since I was given this one. If I did want to sell it to put towards a newer bow what would it be worth? Hopefully someone can help.

i dont know if id feel real safe shooting it ive heard too many horror storys about older bows with cracked limbs blowing up and what not, if you do decide to shoot it find an archery shop and have a tech look at and see what they think

+1 Excellent advice
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Just take it to a good archery shop. If it is really good, they will be glad to help you with your existing bow or help you get a new one. Anyone who has taken up the bow wants you to begin to understand the wonders you will learn. I'll leave it at that.

It was 2 years ago and I still don't have feeling in half of my thumb (doc says I never will).
The scar is cool though  :chuckle:
