Shotgun Slings

I’ve got a 870 Express 12gauge with the wood furniture. It does get a little heavy lugging it around to get grouse, so I was thinking about installing a sling. Does anyone else use one? Pros/cons? Also, the kits I’ve seen require drilling into the stock for the bottom bracket. Has anyone royally messed this up? I’m no carpenter.

I use one and like it, installing the lower  is easy. Make sure you drill the proper size hole and I like to put wood glue in the hole prior to screwing in the stud.  Just put in a stud and get a push button release sling swivel.
I sometimes carry the sling in my pocket to use if I get a turkey or just get tired.

you don't need the special drill bit,  I just use a larger drill bit to get the countersink or just go without the countersink.

Piece of cake. Just go slow drilling and don't go too big a drill bit.

I have them on most of my shotguns, even some high end sxs's that came from the factory that way.  I even have an Ideal that the sling is retracts into the stock and disappears completely from sight when not in uses.

Note little tabs on the side to grasp it.

Just out of curiosity, are you looking at getting a traditional shoulder sling or a "safari" sling?  I have had the safari on my hunting rifle for many years because I can get my gun in shooting position so much faster with it.  Makes me think it would be ideal for shotguns too.
