Lincoln - Spring Bear Hunters - 2014
« on: March 25, 2014, 11:03:59 PM »
I havent seen a thread started yet about just Lincoln so I thought Id start one since there are several Hunt-Wa members drawn. Im pretty excited after a member on here hooked me up bigger than I coulda ever asked for. One of the biggest pre-season discussions is about access so I thought Id start the thread with what I have learned. Its all GOOD news IMO. Id like to see people post Lincoln successes and failures here. Cant wait to see a bunch of Hunt-Wa members posing with you guys. hell...maybe even me.  ;)
   -dave
------------------------------

For this year we will have the gates open for the spring hunt area, except for the area that is leased.  This will be the last year there will be free access for the spring bear hunt.

Our access fee will be in effect starting the 1st of August for the fall hunt.

There will not be any access restrictions other than 1 ½ hours before and after shooting hours.

The WDFW bear hunt website will have updated damage areas on it.

Thanks
Bruce

49 unit is a tough hunt as opposed to the other NE units

Took the bike or jogged into the Lincoln spring bear unit every night this week. Did not see any bear but did find some tracks in a swamp that is full of skunk cabbage. Can't wait for the opener!!!

Call the Colville WDFW and talk to Dana Base. He's the bio out of that little office. I think he still works there.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Do you have a spring tag for 49 north then?
Just have to know the right people sometimes.

Yes I do have spring tag for 49 degrees and would appreciate your advice, nor am I opposed to a knowledgable tag along

Did anyone sign up for the emails from dfw?  Received any?

I spent the last few days scouting around the area.  Found a couple promising spots but nothing significant.

I signed up but have not received anything. I also had the permit last year and never received any e-mails. I found bear sign in several places last year early in the season when they were eating grass. got my bear last year eating grass in early may before they were stripping trees.

I will be out tonight and this weekend finally found some fresh stumps. If anyone sees a white ford ranger with a canopy or a newer dodge diesel feel free to stop and say hello.

I had a Lincoln tag last year and signed up for the e-mails as well.  I also stopped by a DNR Office and all I got was a puzzled look when I asked about the bear e-mails.

Of course you got puzzled looks. DNR is the wrong agency, they wouldn't know anything about the spring bear hunt in the Lincoln unit. You should have talked to the WDFW about it.

They weren't any help either.  I think I still have my paperwork.  ..... I know "Hoarder"   LOL... it will get thrown out when I prep for the next season.

Hello Bearmanric, 1st wanted to say Good Luck this yr.
I'm new to this site, but have lived about 2miles from Rainbow for the last 45 yrs life. My son got a Lincoln tag, so far we haven't seen any fresh Bear sign. I've been thinking about getting a fawn bleat to try calling. I see you call them, mind if I ask what kind of call you use? how successful they are or can be?  Thank you,  Ed

I hope this is cool to ask on this thread, in regards to the map that was sent out.  Are you only suppose to hunt the green areas? Can you also hunt the white? There's only one small area (purple) marked closed.

I'll post the map if need be but I think everyone familiar would know what I'm referring to.

Thanks
BTW newbie to hunting bears.  Hopefully this year I will get my first bear in Lincoln.  Ill be out next wed thurs fri.

Saw my first bear in Lincoln about 830 tonight.  I was about 800yds away so I made a move down a clear cut.  It was perfect I was upwind and every hundred yds or so I would look through binoculars to make sure it was still there.  Looked like a good bear half black half cinnamon.  I crept up on the other side of the ravine from it and got my gun ready, ranged at 150, grabbed the binoculars for one last look...and a cub jumped on the back of the sow.  Then another one popped out from behind a stump.
I was dissapointed but it was cool to watch the cubs play together.

Good luck rick you might be getting soaked.  I've been hiking around all morning and only found sign from last year.  My earlier post meant I was walking into the wind.  I always get those confused
