ATV question
« on: April 01, 2014, 06:40:04 AM »
So I bought an ATV since house bill 1632 passed and there is hope to be able to use it on more forest roads, I dont go cross country on it and, dont go behind gated roads.
the question is
If my ATV registration and title not eligible for road use, will that null and void my plans to put some turn signals, mirror and a horn on it  and register it with a plate for FR's ?

The only reason you need mirrors etc like you mentioned, is to be STREET legal. If you're using it for the FS, you only need what is required by law for that. Spark arrestor type of equipment. Your ORV stickers you get from the dealer is all you need for FS riding. I hope that helps. Personally, I would go the extra expense and get it licensed for the street. We've worked very hard to get these street legal and even to ride on more FS roads. PM me for more info if you want to prevent arguments from the haters............

I tried looking up the new law for ATV use but I found the language much too confusing. It seems to me like it says that it allows more areas to be open to atv use if that jurisdiction approves it. It does not seem to force anyone to allow atv use, rather just make it possible that they could allow it if they wanted to. Also, it seems like it establishes a new $500 fine for various reasons, and mandates the use of a metal license plate.

In other words, doesn't force any areas to open for atv use, still doesn't allow atvs on city roads, and makes you get a license plate and pay more fees. Also, it requires operators to have a drivers license? So individuals under 16 are not allowed to ride atvs?

I think the new laws also require a helmet be used, one of the reasons I decided to sell my 4 wheeler. Just not gonna wear a helmet, sorry.

Helmets have been required for a long time bobcat. I hate them myself, but I flipped mine and got hit on the back of my noggin by a 700 lb ATV. I had a bump the size of a fist on my little head. I also cracked my sternum............. :'(

Hey Camp, From what the Wenatchee FS people have said, To be able to ride on their FS roads the ATV/UTV must be street legal.

I believe under 16 can still ride in the places they have been pre HB1632(like green dot, ORV areas) Just not on roads opened for street legal ATV use.

If the governing jurisdiction has opened their city roads to ATV's you can ride them if you are street legal. As an example, Chelan county & the City of East Wenatchee have opened their roads with a speed limit of 35mph or less.
We have taken ours to Olive Garden for dinner, and around East Wenatchee running errands.

So
any of you guys look at your title ?
Mine says  "not eligible for road use"
My question is, if I make it street legal IAW with the house bill, will that statement mess me up  come inspection time ?
Anybody know?

10-4. I know from before, all we needed was the ORTV stickers and up to date tabs.

The dealer that inspects your ATV will acknowledge it's street legal. They will check one of two boxes indicating : Off road and on-road use or Off road use only. I guess that overrides the registration because of the law. The cost to inspect is $25-$50. You have to have that receipt, plus all the paperwork to make the ATV legal.
