That was a very cool experience!!! This was my first ever shooting Match.
There were 5 stages.
Stage 1: Cold Bore Rifle shot. @ 100 yards.
Everyone sets up prone, shoulder to shoulder. 100 yards away is a board with 20 playing cards stapled to it. Each of us gets a card, face down. On "go" we have 45 seconds to flip the card over, find it's mate on the board, and shoot 1 round thru it (you only get one shot). I drew the 7 of clubs. 45 seconds goes by very fast with everyone shooting, and you are trying to hit your own target. I hit my card, upper left corner.
Stage 2: Pistol to 10 yards, Carbine to 200 yards, Rifel to 300 yards. Time limit 3 minutes.
Basicly hit a bunch of steel with your pistol, had three drop targets and one spinner. Spinner was really fun.
Carbine shots were free hand, sillouettes from 100 to 200 yards
Rifle shots were a sillouette and a spinner, hit both, but was not able to make a follow up shot at the spinner as I was out of time.
Stage 3: Pistol again to 10 yards, carbine from point blank to 250, rifle to 700. Time limit 3 minutes.
Pistol was more of the same, but this time there were more targets.
Carbine was either off a bipod or free hand (if you had a bipod, it was MUCHO better..thankfully I had one)
Rifle was the cool one. After the pistol and carbine portion was complete, you had to crawlthru a tunnel to your rifle. Target 1 was a coyote sillouette at 600 yards. Dinged it twice, then went to the normal silouette at 700, dinged it once, and was out of time.
Stage 4: The canyon, time limit 8 minutes. Round count limited to 100 pistol and 60 carbine
Pistol and Carbine section.
Starts on the top, carbine shots to 200, make 8 then drop your mag and clear the weapon.
Run to the bottom, and it's basicly work your way thru the canyon with both pistol and carbine have to hit each target twice working both weapons from oddball placements. Breathing control is critical. Ammo supply is limited, so each shot counts. Made it 3/4 thru this one before time was called.
Stage 5: Long range!!!
Big rifle.
Ranges: 1745, 1250, 700, 600, 400 all scatterd thru the canyon
you get 5 shots to hit the 1745, 4 shots to hit the 1250, three on the 700, 2 on the 600, and 2 on the 400.
Time limit...3 minutes!!!!
Wind is gusting between 5 and 15 MPH
1745 yards. send two, either it drops in behind, or just below. Decide not to waste time, so move to the 1250
1250, re-dial, send 4, hit once Wind is a BITCH now!!
Move to 700, reload, re-dial, set, hit one of three
Move to 600, redial, send one, it's a hit, but I am out of time, no score at 600.
This was well worth the 6 hour drive!! Will definately do it again!!! I did much better than I expected.
Placed 11th, and also got the "high scoring Novice beer mug"
Definately got my arse kicked. High scores were almost 2x my score!!
My pistol skills flat suck!!! Need to work on them.
