Lake full of Stumps
« on: April 29, 2014, 01:14:07 PM »
Wondering if any of you Shelton Aberdeen Elma boys or girls could tell me if a certain lake full of Stumps is open for public access? I know green diamond res. has closed off a lot of access and made it by permit only[$ grab]. The gate in the past has been open to the lake then closed past the crude campsite. Is it still open and if so did you leave any fish for me?
 Thanks Kramman

Nope it's locked up and posted no trespassing without a permit.

Wow that is extremely unfortunate. Been fishing there for 20 years. Sure hope the state didn't stock the lake for the permit holders.

According to the wdfw, it was scheduled to be stocked. Can't find it in the list as of today. I was wondering if our funding would be spent on stocking "private" lakes.

Not familiar with the lake in question but once Hancock started charging for foot access the state stopped stocking.  Under the old "you can pay to drive, but you can walk in for free" system, the state stocked the lakes because there was nothing stopping the public, other than a long walk/bike/horseback ride.  Even that policy seemed a little unfair to me, and I was a permit holder.  If a lake is 10 miles from the gate, access is pretty limited to most.

I grew up fishing that lake.  Caught some really nice bass and trout out of it.  I was told that it is inaccessible now and Simpson/Green Diamond has it closed up.   :dunno:

It's only closed up and inaccessible for non permit holders. I agree it's a shame, and I also don't think the state should pay to have it stocked.

Green Diamond is advertising that the lake has been stocked as a way of promoting their new $250 access permit:

Walk-in access eh?  I have walked out of there in the pitch black in the middle of a massive thunderstorm after sliding my truck into the lake.  Not sure that it would be worth the walk in to fish it unless you can pack a small boat in with you.

WDFW site doesn't show any fish stockings for the year.  Maybe Green Diamond bought their own fish stocks?  :dunno:

There are plenty of hatcheries in Gray's Harbor to get fish from.
