Federal Deer Thug Ammo
« on: May 10, 2014, 10:17:25 PM »
I was in Pullman this weekend and had to make a trip to Walmart. So I do what you always do, look for ammo. They had these camo covered boxes of ammo with deer thug printed on it. Is this where all the deep curl bullets have disappeared to? Or is this just Fusion or blue box ammo in a different wrapper? Does anyone know? Or even care for that matter?

I looked into them before buying some last year. Federal doesn't give much detail but from what I gathered online, they use Speer's economy grade bonded bullets. It wouldn't make sense for federal to make them the same as Fusions but then price them lower.
I haven't even shot them yet, so no range report from me.

For what it's worth the Speed HotCore & Deep Curl are deer/Elk killing bullets. I think it's overlooked due to the other Premium bullets. I have my preferences (Nosler)but would not hesitate when it came to shooting the Speer HotCore/Deep Curl bullets. Their accurate and not over the top price wise. I've taken both deer & elk with them. Due to their length I'm probably going to run the 120's in a 6.5 Grendel and 6.5x6.8 SPC this coming season.

The price caught my attention. Only $38 the 300wsm. That's cheap for that round.
