Wilderness Elk hunting suggestions
« on: June 23, 2014, 02:48:24 PM »
Hello All,

I am new to Washington, and new to this forum.  Hunted all my life in Oregon, and this will be my first year hunting Washington.  I am a wilderness hunter, via backpack (and horseback many years ago).  Of course being my first year with no points, I didn't get any Washington draws as expected.  I plan to focus on east side for elk, and preferably in the wilderness areas.  As I'm bow hunting Oregon this year, that leaves me with rifle hunting in Washington (due to season overlap issues).  So, am looking at the general season spike only hunts, to familiarize myself with the area while waiting to someday draw a quality/bull tag.

Question: Can anyone recommend which would be the better wilderness areas to investigate on my scouting trips this summer?

Not looking for any honey holes, etc.  I will be going on some backpacking trips this summer to get to know the areas, to be followed up with some scouting trips later.   At the moment I'm focusing on William O. Douglass, Goat Rocks, and Norse Peak wilderness areas.  But would appreciate any inputs on which may be better to focus on.

I appreciate any inputs.  Thank You.
