Looking for a muzzle loader for my brother...
« on: June 25, 2014, 09:29:59 PM »
My brother is hunting with me this year, so I am trying to find him a used ML. Anyone got any leads? Or, does anyone have one sitting around that they would like to sell? Thanks.

Check out the CVA Wolf, better than a used gun and probably cheaper with a lifetime warranty, is very accurate.     http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/7-PR2110   it is also drilled and tapped for a scope, or you can get one with the scope base mounted to the gun.       Northwest version is legal in WA.         http://www.muzzle-loaders.com/rifles/cva/wolf/pr2113s.php

Make sure if you go with the CVA wolf you get the WA legal breech plug.  The 209 isn't legal here.

Which Knight did you get? I am totally biased so for me to say "good choice" probably would not mean much.

It's a used stainless Wolverine with a thumb-hole stock. The guy I bought it from did a great job of keeping it clean. Very happy with it. Too bad it's my brother's gun now. I bought it for him. I'm just glad he's hunting with me.

Shoot! that is a really good gun pluses for the stainless and Thumbhole...  Should be a good shooter...

Hope so. I need to do some research on finding the right bullet powder combo for it. He will be using it primarily for elk. So will probably try a heavier bullet. 300+ grains

From my MK-85's I shoot .458x300 grain Bloodlines in the supplied sabot for hunting and for the range I use a .458x300 gr. Sierra HP.  I really prefer T7-3f powder and shoot 110 grains (volume) ignited with a #11 Mag cap or better yet a RWS Dynamit Noble 1075+ cap.

This is my MK...

I use a Williams FP peep sight and a Williams front fire sight with a Fire sight Hood.

I think you will both like the rifle...

Sweet! Those Bloodline bullets look great. Thinking about having him try those.
