Just not meant to fish
« on: July 04, 2014, 10:50:25 AM »
Went out this morning.  15 minutes in, the fish finder craps out.  It keeps reading 100+ feet when I'm in 46 feet of water.  Caused the downrigger ball to hit bottom a few times before I just pulled everything in and headed back to the dock.  Not worth the risk of grounding the downrigger ball.  The boy tied the boat off too tight to the dock and the eye bolt the rope was hooked to ripped out and now there's a hole in the front end that needs fixed.  Line counter on one of my brand new, used 3 times reels is broken.  works but the button doesn't pop back up.  I think one of the kids was playing with it.

Still a very nice day on the water with my oldest son.  Just have some work to do now to get back out there.

Hate those days.  Might launch for shallow crabs tomorrow.  Still deciding

You are in salt. Rub the face of your transducer with your hand in the water if you can reach it, or clean it before you go in the water.
Most line counter reels have a clutch. I just tighten mine a little to get it werkin and then back it off. Seems to work fine.
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!

I will look at both.  I did wipe off the bottom of the transducer before we went out yesterday and it only glitched once so, that may have been it

The hole in the boat is an easy fix if you know how to do fiberglass work. I was taught it a long time ago. Now with you tube and the internet, you should be able to do the repair easily.

Keep at it.  Everyone has had those kind of fishing experiences.  At least you didn't lose the downrigger ball!  Plus it wasn't raining.

 :yeah:

I have those kinds of days at work,... And I keep going back!   If it was called 'Catchin', it wouldn't be 'Fishin'.  There's a whole lot more to 'Fishin' than people give credit to.
