Fires affecting special permit holders
« on: July 28, 2014, 07:28:39 AM »
Any chance special permit holders of a unit burned (like swakane) can get there points back?

Would any of you take your points back if you could? Or would you chance it and hunt any ways?

Some people are saying that the fire will make it a easier hunt because you will be able to see them better with everything burned?

The fire didn't torch the entire unit. I also assure you there will still be deer there.

You could call the WDFW. I doubt that you'd get your points back for an act of God.

I'm not sure why you'd want to get your points back.  I've witnessed deer and elk, wandering around still smoldering areas, when Sherman Pass burned, picking at the browse that survived.  They avoid the flames and heat, for the most part, but quickly recover and return to the area, as long as their's available food.  Otherwise, hunt the fringes of the burn.  They'll still wander straight through burned out areas, to get from point A to point B.

I seem to remember guys got their points back in the last 2-3 years. I seem to think it was for fire danger closures, maybe in the Margaret or Winston unit? I could be wrong. I don't think an area like the Swakane will be affected much, but over in the Methow will be a different story.

I believe it's only if they close the unit.  Pray for some more rain and those burnt hills will look like green wheat coming up by October.

Most of the unit I drew is charcoal and I still plan on going.  Hoping for the best.  I don't think the buck I'm looking for will be there til November anyways. If he don't show up I'll just go chase whitetails.

I still plan on hunting with my late tag, I was just curious if the state gave points back or not, and didn't know if the bucks would move on somewhere else if all the vegetation was gone when they came down

I got points back for the old Marble unit way back when St Helens had the second scare and they set up the shut down zone.... Had to push to get the points back, but got them at the end.

It is not like a guy is asking for a whole lot, just his points back. Not like I was asking for another permit hunt or area... Just wanted my frickin points back.
