Kapowsin archery elk, suggestions?
« on: August 28, 2014, 07:50:18 PM »
I get to help a friend with his elk tag on Tuesday. He also drew one of the six kapowsin elk permits so he gets to hunt  the kapowsin area of Hancock.  I've mostly concentrated on blacktails on the property, was thinking about the 700 rd walk in as a starting point.  Anyone have a sweet spot for big bulls in the very limited draw area?  If this wasn't a very limited hunt I wouldn't bother to ask, PM's would be great.  Thanks, hopefully pics on Tuesday night!

I thought they made you choose which season you wanted to hunt? It Did not sound like a multi season free for all.

Go to where the lower gate that connects eatonville and kapowsin side is. That is a prime crossing spot. That knob has always been a good rut location. Don't drive up there either. Walk the last mile or so. Call as you walk. Shoot only a mature 6x or bigger or you have wasted that tag. 350 is doable in there.

I concur.  I have seen some nice bulls right there on a regular basis.   Very vocal in that area as well.

Was up there the other day and saw a 300 plus 6 point just east of the 3012/3011 road. Think he's living in that old clear cut. Seen him there twice now, lots of cows hanging between there and camp 5 too

He has been seeing some nice bulls latley, I'm waiting to hear about a pig he worked yesterday but couldn't get close enough to.  I was only able to hunt one day with him, I've been hunting with my dad and his archery tag in the little natches.  Thanks for all the info, it's appreciated.  I will let you know what happens.  He still has the muzzy and rifle season if this doesn't work out.

Huh.  I thought hancock wouldn't let you use a multi elk.  I would pass on 330 ish bulls with a multi kapowsin tag too.  You can do much better with that much time.
