Too Warm to Stay
« on: October 07, 2014, 10:21:08 AM »
We had to cut our annual camping trip in the 340 short due to the weather. On Saturday our group of four were busy all day getting two cows and a spike-by-two out of the woods, skinned and hung up. The shooting was over by 8:15 in the morning but the last quarter didn't make it on the on the pole in camp until after 7:00 pm. That night it never got below 50 degrees even though we camp at nearly 5,000 ft. elevation. On Sunday we headed out early with the meat to the coolers and I returned yesterday to break camp and pack up. Great hunting this year for us and great weather for camping but too nice to keep the meat from spoiling.
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies

Put it in the cooler and go back!  You have another tag to fill!

This weather is terrible!  We've been hunting between 5500'-6000' this week and at sunrise this morning it was already 60 degrees!  Congrats on the animals.

Same weather we had in archery season.  You can make do and do rather well.  They still have to eat.

Just bone out and pack on ice in a big cooler.  Even if it is hot, if you bone out in the field your meat will make it to the ice well before it spoils.  Bones are your enemies.
It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton
