RIP ammo
« on: November 14, 2014, 09:33:58 PM »
Saw a video today on the new RIP ammo. It s manufactured in handgun caliburs only and is designed for personal defense. Looks pretty cool.  Anyone tested or have thoughts?

I could see a lawsuit if you used it in self defense, someone would try saying that its sole purpose is to kill.

Doesn't look like a good 'stopping' round.  Seems it would wound, one decent wound and a few superficials.  Does look pretty menacing though.

I think the round has a very high chance of hitting vitals and or bleeding out internally very quickly.

Isn't that the whole reason to ever have to shoot a person?

yes but look at a situation like the shooting in Ferguson, they will try to come after you with anything they can.

Seems gimmicky and potentially less effective than proven HP designs.

I'll comment on the OP......never would I carry them. I don't believe in gimmick ammo. I'll take a standard hollow point for personal protection agains two legged threats and I prefer 230gr round nose for in the woods.

:yeah: If you want to have a shoot/no shoot debate or an intent when shooting or not shooting go to off topics and start one. I will clean this up so the OP can have his thread back.  :bash:

I refrain from using the "newest/latest" and opt more "proven/older" when it comes to the subject of SD rounds.  So no I wouldn't carry this in a SD capacity.

Turkeyfeather, what we're saying is this:  Never SAY "I shot him to kill him" or "I wanted to kill him before he killed me" or "I only shoot to kill."  That will end up with you paying a hefty price to the family of the person you killed after they win their civil suit.  If or God forbid when ANYONE (police, prosecutor, judge, media) is questioning you about the fact there is a dead person with your bullet in him, your response should ALWAYS be "I needed to end the threat."  "I was in fear for my life/the lives of my family and I had to end the threat."

Shoot for center mass if your life is in danger.  Aim for heart/lung/CNS.  That is the quickest way to incapacitate an assailant.  Will a center mass shot often result in death?  OF COURSE!  But don't TELL anyone you were trying to KILL your assailant!  By saying "I wanted to kill him before he killed me" or similar, you make it easier for the prosecutor for the dead person's family to show how you are "a blood thirsty monster that used ammunition created to cause the most trauma (RIP Ammo.  See?!  On Topic!) and therefore Judge, this man owes the "victim's" family $20 million dollars."  And you'll have to pay.

Instead, shoot center mass and STOP THE THREAT.  If the assailant dies, he dies; that's not important.  You're only concern is to Stop The Threat.  When someone asks, you TELL them you were "in fear for your life and wanted to STOP THE THREAT."  That's it.  Say no more.  Don't change your story.

But hey, don't take my word for it.  Look at ANY concealed carry website and they'll tell you the same thing I just did.   :twocents: :hello:

I am pretty sure its still illegal in Mass to shoot to injure someone.  When I got my liscence there in 2010 they taught to shoot to kill at the police station.  They said its more to protect you from lawsuit that the persons dead than injured and trying to press charges.  Just saying
