Nooksack river closed to all fishing below the falls
« on: December 15, 2014, 10:54:29 PM »
Just a heads up for Whatcom county folks. The Nooksack is closed until further notice to all fishing from the mouth to nooksack falls. This applies to all forks and tributaries as well. Saw the warden out there this morning "educating" a few people about it. Bummer...

My son is coming home for a pre deployment visit,  now where do we go fish? I need to get him on a fish or two, maybe find a boat and hit the bay?

I hear ya man, its a real shame too because the fish are really running right now. Crabbing is still open though till the 31st.

i can't get my head around those types of closures.  they've been doing the same thing on the kalama springers for over 5 years now.  plant the fish, then don't let us fish for them because they don't get enough back for broodstock.  then maybe open the river back up after the fish are dark.  a real waste and a shame.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

If they would just switch to another stock, the kalama would be doing just fine... :bash:

Maybe someone can answer this for me, why are they closing this river when its on the list of rivers that is no longer able to plant with hatchery steelhead? What is the point of trying to protect the brood stock ? So the state can waste the money of rearing them only to dump them in some lake? idk

I think they hope to get approval to resume planting steelhead in the spring.
