There is a wildlife unit out there with a ton of sagebrush flats and rock outcrops.  I don't know exactly where it is at but it should show up on any good atlas.  It supposedly holds a lot of dogs, they did an article about the area in Fishing and Hunting  News once.  I would try that if I were you.  I think it is within 30 minutes of Othello.

I clicked on this, and I'm glad I did.  We will be in Royal City at a wrestling tourney the weekend after Christmas; the actual tourney isn't until the 30th, but we were thinking about heading that way a couple days early to do some coyote hunting.  None of us have ever hunted on the "dry" side of the state.  If anyone on here knows exactly where these public lands are, please post.  We will probably stay at a Motel in Moses Lake, unless there are some in Othello?

Stay clear of the Othello motels, only one worth staying at is the Best Western and it is spendy. It may be worth checking out to save the 30min drive on HWY 17. Many more lodging choices in Moses Lake.

I can tell you how to get there but I can't tell you the roads once you get out into the wildlife area. One enterance is about 10 miles from Othello. Here is 2 websites for the refuge:
http://www.fws.gov/columbiarefuge/Home/index.html
http://www.fws.gov/refuges/profiles/index.cfm?id=13510
There are TONS of roads and lakes out there I would say to go by and talk to the refuge office to see if they have maps or info that would help you out. Dont get injuried out there cause your only help with either be coming from Royal City which is about 20 mins away or Othello Hospital which has some good emts followed by very poor emts. ;)

There is one more but they don't allow hunting on it cause it  the the Handford Reach. I guess they don't want shots towards the Nuclear Reactor. :dunno:
Hope this will help you two.

You might want to check with the Refuge headquarters, coyotes aren't legal game on the Columbian National Wildlife Ref.

 :yeah:

I got that from them a couple years ago. No Coyote hunting on the refuge, just birds and deer. Stupid. But that's the way it is.

There are some State game areas mixed in with the refuge on both sides. Check the F&W website. Likely be very good bets. The Frenchman Hills area is really good too, I've never gone there without seeing Coyotes, but plan on LOTS of walking, and be super cautious for ice that won't support your weight.

There's cattle around Othello, so likely lots of landowners would be open to a polite, ethical, safe, responsible, well mannered Caller. (Tell them you're looking to CALL coyotes. Don't say you're a "coyote hunter" because they'll think of the 4x4's bombing around their fields and herds with the spotlights and rifles sticking out the windows and the cooler of beer smashing around in the back. It's an image we have to overcome.)

I've heard that the crop and hay farmers are friends of the Coyotes because they kill moles and gophers. Best to stick the the Cattlemen.

Have fun guys!
