Selling in the round?
« on: February 25, 2015, 02:13:04 PM »
Are there any laws pertaining to selling in the round i.e. can i sale my catches to anyone or does it have to be a licensed taxidermist or fur buyer?

Good question. I would say that you can sell in the round to a fur buyer only. However with that said if you sold to someone that didnt have the appropiate license to buy that would most likely be on them.  :twocents:

Another point I would make is that by engaging in sales for trapped furs are you required to maintain a business license and report sales

Once a fur bearer is caught it becomes your personal property and can be sold to anyone in the round or processed as raw fur or further processed as a tanned fur or garment.
There are however a few conditions. The person buying has to use it for there own personal use unless they have a Fur Buyers  license or a Taxidermists license. It is illegal to buy fur for resale without the Fur Buyers license.
In addition you have to be selling the fur or pelt. Selling the meat especially for human consumption would likely get you in trouble. It is my understanding you could sell the meat as a byproduct but your intent in trapping the animal would have to be for the fur or pelt.
In some States there is a thriving meat market for some animals like raccoon. I do not think this would fly in WA. Wording in the law specifies you may only trap for hides and pelts. Even if that was set aside I think any animal would have to go through a licensed meat processing facility before it could be sold for human consumption.
