Eastside Yotes Spring/summer

Hello all,

Being new to the coyote scene, started out about a year ago, I am still working on bagging my first. Been out a few times this past winter on the east side and have called in 4 total but only able to connect with one 

Now that its starting to warm up, what does the coyote hunting look like on the east side? Are they still active during the day in the heat? Would sticking to early mornings/late evenings prove better? Any knowledge is helpful, this site has been a huge information portal for me, getting into hunting in general on my own.

Why go east ? I love hunting the west side this time of year and there are a ton of coyotes  . I seem to do better on the west side in the spring/early summer  than I do in the winter . We were up last Monday and called 2 in on 3 sets with a rabbit distress . Yesterday my wife and I walked up on one at 3 pm that was cruising a clear cut , a little later on our second set we got one in but I could not get him to break cover and then later I had a conversation with one using a howler , going after him tonight . With the grouse mating and the fawns getting ready to drop we need to kill west side dogs  . From the conversation I had with a game warden yesterday it sounds like he would like to see more hunters over here doing the same .

in spring the middle of the day should still be fine but in summer when its 80-100 degrees they are much harder to call in, go to the same place the next morning and have great luck. To me westside coyotes are harder to hunt for several reasons but if you can hunt them within 30 minutes of where you live then you should be able to hunt them much more often then having to drive what a hundred miles? Do you know of any places to hunt where you live?

@justyhntr I would love to hunt the west side if I knew any areas to do so. I am very familiar with forest roads as I do some wheeling here and there, mostly off hwy 2 since I moved to bothell about a year ago. Ill look into some locations here on the west side, but the reason I mostly stayed away from it is that I hear its much more difficult to hunt in these areas on the west side. If you can point me in the right direction here on the west side, I would most definitely be diligent in attempting at some west side coyotes!

I live in Bothell. I dont know of any areas around here to hunt as im pretty new to the area. Previously lived in Tacoma. Grew up in Washington most of my life!

Shady , don't get me wrong , west side dogs are tough to hunt , last year between April and Aug. 15 we called in 12 that we could see and shot 7 . I spend a bit of time in the woods scouting for deer so I just carry my calls and shotgun and if I find fresh sign I set up and call . If there is a second person , like my wife , I have her carry a 243 for the longer shots . . My favorite set up is to find a clearcut with a timber patch below it with a side wind(I seem to have better luck with a side wind) . I will set up about 100yards off the timber and put the second person about 30-40 yards down wind of me and a little lower on the hill . The second person is set up to pick off any dogs trying to circle me and I take the young dumb ones that run right to me . It took me a couple years to have success , but keep after them and things will come together .

Quick report from the weekend. Went to wenas area early morning, set up at 6 different stands that I have had previous luck in months back, and did not see or hear anything..perfect wind, perfect weather, perfect conditions. No luck  oh well, will keep trying..

I've called them in at all times of day. Even mid August and 95* at 1:30pm
