Painted the rifle stock
« on: June 02, 2015, 09:18:01 PM »
Painted the stock on my rem 700 .300 yesterday and I think it turned out pretty good for my 1st attempt! I'm not quite finished with it yet, just put it together to see how I liked it. I need to put a couple layers of a hard clear coat, or lacquer. anyone have any recommendations on a good one to use that had a matte finish? All I can find is gloss, and I don't want it to be shiny!

You can use the gloss, when it is completely dried, take a real fine grit steal wool to it and it will take the shine away and still look good.

Just one way to do it.

Not true. You can go to any automotive paint store and purchase a semi gloss clear coat. I have done that myself. If you "scuff it up" you will have lines from the steel wool. PPG does make a semi gloss clear coat. I have been painting for 28 years.
By the way Buglebuster, that looks pretty good. Did you do that from a rattle can or an airbrush? There is a technique to do that "rock finish" with an airbrush.
