Griz

From YNP yesterday, upper Norris. Talked the gf into hiking the upper meadow section of the Norris area, the roads choked with reprod and was mostly being ignored so I figured we might get a chance to see some undisturbed critters. We dropped in and crossed the creek then headed down stream a short ways then crossed again and started to circle back since the gf was a little uncomfortable with the whole idea, thought we might see a bison or bear up close...  :dunno:

Well just as we we're gettin near the rig out pops a friggin sow with cub on a decent trot at about 50yds crossing left to right. Now I've never seen a griz in the wild, and I gotta tell ya I quickly felt rather helpless despite the can of spray. We held still and thankfully they kept their path then stopped at about 100yds and started digging. Snapped some photo's, the gf moved a bit and the sow snapped a look our way. We stood tall and backed up slowly then beat it to the road. Needless to say I wasn't able to talk her into any more hikes for the rest of the day  :chuckle: Awesome experience though.

Cool.  I'd have been really nervous too, especially with that cub close to mama.
