first archery deer
« on: September 27, 2015, 02:31:51 PM »
Well last year after missing my deer and this year finding out I would have to miss out on this years deer season and elk season due to a deployment my father in law decided to get me the multi-season deer tag so that I may have a chance to tag one out before I leave so I had to barrow a bow from his buddy and was able o shoot it a few times before going out last Saturday which went great saw a bunch of deer but ended up missing and losing two arrows (wife was not happy lol) one was a 30 yard shot and I blew it wen 6 inches in front of her and got lost in some ferns the next deer was about 56 yds away and I let it fly only to see the small two in tree in front of her take the arrow the broadhead and insert flew out (didn't know they had to be glued in, the last time I shot a bow I was maybe 12 yrs old and shot a youth recurve) the tip looked like it cracked so I didn't want to chance that one again. After that one any other opportunity I had either the deer took off before I could get close enough or I couldn't get a good shot path without them busting me. So this week I put in a little more practice having my brother tune the bow a little more to me and show me a few techniques to do differently that would could my shot groups get a little closer together. finally yesterday came around and we headed back into the woods hoping for a deer to let me get a shot and about 30-40 minutes after legal light there she was about 30 yds off the road by the time I got out of the truck and got a glimpse of er again she was about 50 yds away and wend behind a big dirt mound I figured this was my best chance to get a little closer to her. As I was making my way loser I step on a few twigs and she heard me so she took off and stop in between two big trees I knew this would be my chance or she would have ran way to far out of range so I drew back and guessed the range of about 50 yds and put the last pin of the bow on her back then let it fly heard a loud thwack and she trotted off so I thought for sure I misjudged the range which I did had my father in law bring the range finder to double check and she was about 63 yds away and to my surprise when I found the arrow blood soaked. took us about 30 minutes to find her and she only went about 50 yds after being hit
