Hit list Blackies
« on: October 30, 2015, 01:36:47 PM »
Ive been after these guys this week. I had to head out of the woods early today for family obligations but I have over 24 hours in the stand this week already and not one sighting during the day. I really wish I could still be out there now but Ill be at it hard again tomorrow morning.

Was playing the same game with my boy but he sealed the deal at last light yesterday. The deer had taken a 39 hour hiatus from 03:30 on the 28th till 18:00 on the 29th. The storm that rolled through apparently had them hunkered down. I had a good feeling when we climbed in the blind yesterday at 16:30 that it was go time. Deer showed at 18:00 and the buck came in at 18:20.

Did you not get pics yesterday afternoon, or have you not checked cams yet?

You may want to bring the show to them and try some rattling.

You ever have the mature bucks disappear for quite a while after they look at your red glow cameras?

Ive got cams spread all over the place. I checked the cam in the spot I hunted yesterday evening and this morning but he didnt show last night and obviously not when I was there yesterday or this morning.

Problem is I am losing shooting light where I am (cant see my pins) around 5:50. When I climb down and hike out to the trail its about 6:15 and outside the dark timber there is still shooting light so not sure what to do. Hoping to get lucky now. I know if I cant get one tomorrow it turns into a REAL GRINDtrying to get one late season or late archery (post rut) is even worse.

Of the pics you hung, your pattern looks similar to mine. I'll rattle off my buck pic times (all same camera, at feeding area, 4 different bucks), maybe it will help you pattern (do black tails have a pattern? :))........

Chessie,

Congrats to you and your son!

AK, thanks for sharing. Sound s like you're going after your deer w/ string and stick.hope you stick one tomorrow.

Man, after years of heading east for deer and elk I'm really thinking I need to learn to love hunting the wet side. It's not like I'm not comfortable in the rain. Heck, I spent over 10 years training year round doing 65-85 mile bike rides around enumclaw, thru everything but ice/snow on the road and riding up to 5-6 days a week.

Gotta get out there and learn the ropes.

Foambeetle,

Thanks man! You got that stick and string dialed in for your Desert Permit?!

Chesapeake,

Ive seem to notice the bucks in this area are really moving around a lot. I've gotten pics of the big 4X4 at spots 1/2 mile apart within a 24 hour timeframe. I'm going to park it at a stand I hung yesterday in the timber with reprod 150 yds on my left and clear cut 150 yds on my right.

Hope for the best. All you can do is hunt!
