Is it normal..
« on: November 05, 2015, 06:11:34 PM »
Is it normal for two bucks that were taken in the same general unit to have tails that vary this much in looks? Might be a dumb question but just thought it was odd. Bucks were taken just two miles apart. Mine was the long, short black patch with white tip, my buddies is the short fat tail, big black patch with brown tip.

I think the answer is yes.  The descriptions for BT deer tails state that there is variability in color and length.  I caught a BT doe last winter on cam who's tail was full on brown, no black.

Very common, you can so find them where the whole outside is black, I notice it with the age of the deer

All brown, that's cool! Was it a big tail like a white tail?

One is 1/8 white.  That's enough to know the deer was murdered.  Whitetail lives matter Run.

Sheesh.

I wasn't trying to say it was an issue or insinuate anything, I had just chopped the tails off for tying flies and when I looked at them side by side I saw some differences and was just curious! I've never paid a whole lot of attention to the deers tails!

Nope.  Tight little tail - typical BT other than color.
