Jakelands 2015 Blacktail
« on: November 07, 2015, 11:26:56 PM »
The first week of the season was pretty much normal seeing plenty of deer with at least one buck per day just nothing I wanted to put a tag on warm weather to begin with and as the season progressed it started getting rain and wind and that's what I like.
(Ethan)Turner89 and I always take the last week of the season off of work for a sabbatical of Blacktail hunting which entails up at 3:00 A.M park at the gate and ride and hike 5+ miles up and in.
Thursday the 29th was a little different then most mornings as we were both getting a way late start. I got to the gate at about 5:15 and called Turner to see where he was and low and behold I'm waking him up we set plans as to where I was going and I headed up the hill.
By 7:00 I wasn't 3/4 of the way to my honey hole and it's getting light enough out its time to be hunting not cruising in the dark so I ditch the bike get set up and slowly start HUNTING towards my spot. I start gaining elevation slowly as I'm glassing edges of timber and cuts when about 200 or so yrds away I can see a big bodied deer running back and forth across a landing just by its size and the way its reacting it's a buck.
With my glasses up and walking slowly on the edge of the road I cut the distance in half and can finally get a better view of his rack. This buck would not stand still he was just jacked up running all over so I lay down on the road with gun up watching him through the scope but with the safety still on I just wasn't sure yet.
Finally I get a good view of his head gear and decided I would punch him unknown to him. He finally slows down his running around like a chicken with his head cut off and gives me a perfect broadside shot BOOM .270 WSM with 140 accu-bond smacks him and he face plants on the spot.
I walk up to him and I'm pleased to notch my tag on him a nice mature Blacktail, I shot Turner text that I'm tagged out and start getting a couple pictures taken and start dressing him out when BOOM the destinct sound of a 30.06, Turner tagged out.
I finish up with my buck and head down to help Turner get his buck up to the bikes and carts then he goes back up with me to get my buck with the bikes and carts what a awesome day! We spent hours getting out and hours that night caping them out and stripping meat off. It was a long day and night.
Friday morning comes around and I'm supposed to help a friend of mine (Gundogger) try and get a Blacktail I'm beat tired but hell I want to keep the season alive and see if we can get a buck for him so I get ahold of him and we meet at about 5:15 and head to the gate again.
At about noon I had to bail to get our bucks to the taxidermist so I give him some ideas and had shown him some good areas and we parted ways. Turner and I were about 1 hour into our drive to the taxidermist when I got the call buck down !!!!! I tell him that we'll haul @$$ get back to help him . lots of calls and texts we figure out where he's at and help him get a dandy 3x3 out and I'll  tell you we were all smiles it was a good couple of days.

Great job.  Three for three in two days.  All nice bucks!

Great job!  Really like the shape of your buck, low, heavy, and wide.  What was the spread?
If you dont do it this year, you'll be one year older when you do!

Congrats on a very nice Deer!! Way to close the deal. Not to bad for a guy from Sultan :chuckle:
