Late Palouse Whitetail

Saturday was a beautiful day to be in the Palouse country! I hiked in to a spot I wanted to sit and this guy came in with a doe and bedded about 250 yards away. I watched him for a couple of hours hoping to see him stand and when he did at about 8:00, I missed the opportunity when he immediately laid down in the other direction. I had another permit holder see him and when he sneaked in and saw me, he left. Thanks! The buck finally stood up about 12:00 and I made the most of it with one shot from the 270. He's got a lot of dried velvet on his rack and I'd never gotten one like that before. With all the talk of Bluetongue this year and seeing a couple of dead deer in the area, I feel fortunate to have found this buck so quickly.

Congrats on a good buck! I've noticed that when its a drought years over there, they don't rub their antlers clean like a normal year.
