Need some help for family hunt!
« on: January 19, 2009, 10:51:02 PM »
I have been reading this site for about a year and now could really use some help.  My 15 year son and myself have been casing turkey's for the last two years.  Last year my father joined us.  My dad is getting on in age (80 years young), he hunts deer, elk, and this year waterfowl.  He is tough but not sure how much longer he will be able to get out and hunt.  We lost Mom just before Thanksgiving this year and would like for him to get a turkey this year.  I also have my second son join us this year.  I personal don't need to shoot a bird (would like to), but I would love for my Dad and boys get a shot at some birds.  We will be taking a trip to the northeast during the kids spring break (second week in April), I am looking for a good area that we can hunt and camp.  Thanks for any information.

Colville is your best bet.  Stop by or call the Chamber of Commerce,  The gal that works there is very helpful.  They also sell maps that show all the public land in the area.  You may want to take a scouting trip to Colville and talk to some land owners.  some are more than happy to help (again talk to the gal at the Chamber for help)  If you need lodging contact the Colville inn.

I would call an outfitter in your case...just to make it easier for you. Two kids and your father..thats a lot of planning and issues that come up. Comfort of a cabin near hunting areas and knowing that the guide will help. Just  :twocents:.  There are several guides with leases on private land now a days.  I believe Sherman Creek Outfitters or Bear Paw Outfitters guide in the NE part of the state.  Both have good reputations I beleive but I have never been with either of them.  If $ is an issue...There are lots of birds up there and I would make some calls to chambers of commerce for local info.  There are several campgrounds in area as well as public land.
Wild Turkey, Walleyes, Whitetails and Wapiti..These are a few of my favorite things!!
