G1 vs G7
« on: February 15, 2016, 09:58:30 AM »
what bc do you use for what bullets?  I was always told you use a G1 bc for flat based bullets and G7 for boat tails but I see often people or company's using or advertising G1 bc's for G7 profile bullets.

What are you using for your ballistic programs and how accurate are your drops or windage?

Does it really make much difference under 1000y?

Thoughts?

in my limited experience, under 1200 yards AND above Mach it really does not matter as long as you are using actual BC numbers, and you use a trued velocity.

Once you go below Mach...well, all bets are off...

Just make sure you use a G7 BC with a G7 drag function...and vice versa

G7 BC's are over accurate over a larger velocity range.

G1 BC's are accurate over a narrow velocity range.

Overall I think the G7 is going to be more accurate. I'm guessing out to 500-600 yards you're not going to tell much difference.
