Remington model 660 in .308 Win
« on: July 15, 2016, 09:44:48 AM »
So I have the opportunity to buy this rifle today, supposedly in again, mint condition. It has no scope but does have the open sights. Appears to have a 20" barrel, no magazine floor plate, and a plastic trigger plate and guard.
I think some people call this the Mohawk? Does anyone have experience with this rifle? Good or bad? Let me know, I might just make a low offer and see what happens.

Thanks!

Started my kids with that rifle.

One of my sons (6'6" and 290 lbs) about cried when I sold it.

He loved that rifle.

I bought an original 600, same action as the 660(the 660 is a nicer looking rifle IMO) in 1968.  aaaai hunted and did control work with it for 30 years and rebarreled it to 6x45 and still own it.  It would be one of the very last to leave the stable.  Metal, aluminum and steel trigger guards/floorplate are availible fairly reasonable.  Mine has a very nice adjustable trigger on it and I did send it in for the trigger recall.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska

I bought this rifle today for $200. It was not mint as it was portrayed to be, it had been sitting in a safe for 15 years, so it had some light pitting and surface rust, I should be able to fix most all of that. It has been shot and used to hunt with so it has the usual wear marks and dents. All in all its in good condition and will be a good hunting rifle for west side blacktails, bears, and elk. I have a Leupold 1.75-6x36 Vari X III I will put on it and see how it shoots! I might load up some TSX 168 gr. boattails.

I ran Remington 150 grain pointed soft points in my carbine and boy they work well on them bears.Every bullet was found on the back side of the hide..These were all close shots..I paid 200 for mine and was offered 600 from a guy at the gun range..Im not sure if it was because it was a carbine or what..What a great west side gun

A friend of mine collects all the 600's. I bet it's worth $6-700 if it's perfect.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............
