Full gear and water, plus the big glass and I'm sitting at 40.3 pounds.  I do know my food is 1.9 pounds a day, so for an 8 day hunt I'd be at about 56 pounds.  I could definitely shave a bit but like i said before, I wanna eat well and be comfortable.  I've done the ultra light thing and for me, it sucked

  It's a Kifaru DT1.  Not sure what max is, but I have had North of 100 pounds in it more times than I can count in the last three years.  Biggest load was probably 130 ish last year in Idaho.  Wasn't weighed but a whole boned out mature mule deer,  my whole camp, head and cape.  4 miles back to camp, then 7.5 out to the truck.  It carries amazingly well.

Tough trip this weekend.  Did not see a single elk.  Saw one doe and a fawn.  That was it.  Boots thrashed my ankles for 12 miles too.  But checked out some uncharted country, saw lots of sign and tested the new death tarp.  All in all it beat wood cutting

We really wanted to make our destination so we could be glassing in the a.m. so we hiked till almost 11.  By the time we got the badger hole set up, it was time for a serious chow session!  There was food everywhere

I have dismissed tarps and floorless shelters for far too long!  Everytime I get something new from Jonathan_S I fall more and more in love with the concepts.  After playing with this tarp, I don't even think I'll be using the badger hole unless I plan on packing my stove. 

We pitched this tarp a dozen different ways and every one would be useful in a certain weather condition.  The amount of open space this tarp provided was absolutely insane.  This is my new go to system until the cold temps hit and I start packing the stove.

Sweet.  I found this about the DT1 "this pack is rated at loads of 100 pounds plus for taking on any task, anywhere with relative comfort. Yet it compresses down to day hunt size–take it with you and carry back massive meat and trophies from the spot you take them."

I am looking for a new pack and might have to check out the Kifaru a little closer.

Dug a nice deep water hole in the event we end up back in that area.  Water was few and far between up high.  Waiting for a water hole to settle and clear up is worse than waiting for a MH meal to cook.  Especially when you are out of water

Did you stick a trail cam there, you might attract wildlife to that pond.
