remington 783?

Looks like a competitive answer to the Ruger American/Savage Axis.  Anyone shot one yet? I've always been partial to big green.

Well the 783 seems more solid than the American. The stock is definitely stiffer, bolt lifts cleaner, the barrel is heavier and the accu-trigger clone is not as intrusive as Ruger or Mossberg's.  The mag is metal not plastic and fed rounds just like it should.  No reloads for it yet, 165 grain Remington core-locks were 1.7 inches at 100 yards(3 shot group) on a breezy afternoon.  Now that I have some brass I'll see how she shoots this weekend.

On a calm day the core-lokts were at .8 for a 3 shot group at 100 yards.  47 grains of Varget under a 165 Hornady BTSP went at .7 for 3 at 100 yards.  RL-22 57 grains with the Hornady was at 1.5 inches.  Little more Varget trials tomorrow to dial in a hunting load.

Which caliber?

30-06  is the caliber.  A 5 shot group with 49 grains of Varget under a Hornady 165 grain BTSP was at 1 inch at 100 yards, chrony's at 2785 fps.  I now have a Ruger American and Browning X-bolt both in 7mm-08 going up for sale soon.

Well the pair of 783's in '06 I bought for $199 each with the rebate were my best gun purchase yet.  Switched to Speer 165 btsp from Hornady due to what the store had and the two accounted for 4 deer this last fall. In the constant search for a "more better" load I've yet to beat the 49 gains of Varget with the 165 btsp. Put a free BSA target scope on one of the 783"s and on a calm day off of a sand bag rest shot a .4 inch group of 3 at 100 yards.  If your looking for accurate and low cost the 783 is the ticket!
