MS Deer transport tag exchange
« on: August 22, 2016, 05:02:46 PM »
I'd almost forgotten about it - what was supposed to happen to the general season tag when we purchased the MS deer tag?  WDFW said something about turning it in the next day (or something along those lines) after the OTC MS tag was purchased.  I currently have two transport tags - MF and MS.   :dunno:

I write "void" on the original and mail to WDFW, attention Licensing.

That happened to me a few years ago.
The person who sold you the MS tag screwed up. They should have taken the 1st transport tag.

I did turn mine in in the past when I was selected for the MS tag and went in to pay for it.  The cashier this year had no clue what to do, and I did read something about surrendering the old tag, but it wasn't well worded.  I may follow Bob33's lead.

I was told to mail it in or put it in the box for reports that sits on the front counter at WDFW.

This is from the email announcing the availability of the OTC MS tags:

"You must surrender your General Deer or Elk Tag at the time of purchase. There are no exceptions. You will not be able to mail in your General Deer or Elk Tags at a later date.

On August 16th your General Season Deer Tag will not need to be voided at the time of your purchase. On August 17th you or the license dealer will need to contact the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Headquarters at (360) 902-2464 to have your General Season Deer Tag voided at the time of your Multi-Season Deer Permit purchase."

I'm still not sure what the hell they really wanted to say.  It kind of goes both ways, like it was copied and pasted from last year's announcement and then amended with additional information.  I guess I'll call the number....

The store I bought my MS tag at didn't take my general tag either. I had to drop it off at the WDFW so they could mail it to Olympia. She said it's illegal to have both the tags on you at the same time.
