Back in the day when archery season opened on the 1st of Oct. I could call in bulls the first 2 weeks of Oct.
(I am talking rocky Mt. eastside elk)I have this watershed tag that starts Oct. 29th, I haven't hunted elk much that late in the year. What I do know is that the cows that didn't take in the regular rut will come back in heat. The hyper cow call works real well, I've had bulls respond very aggressively to this call in the pass. My question is for those who have had or have heard of successful late season calling tactics. I do cow call as I hunt, I learned this a long time ago. Elk are noisy, if they hear you but don't smell or see you cow calls will calm them down.
