As far as you can accurately shoot.

If you have a range finder and some sort of technique for accurately knowing and performing your hold-over then you probably won't have a lot of difference between the 30-06 and 7mm mag.  If you don't have a drop compensating reticle, then the 7mm mag would probably extend your range 50 yards or so since it will be flatter shooting.  Maybe 300 yards or so with the -06 and 350 with the 7 mm mag.

You could always play around with the ballistic calculator or look up ballistic tables to get an idea.

Which 7mm cartridge are you referring to? There are many.

:yeah:
I can think of at least 7 factory rounds that start off with "7mm" and a few more that use the same bullet diameter but are labeled using the bullet diameter in inches.

The 7mm Rem mag is a little faster shoots flatter and carries energy better further out than the 30-06. Depending on what sort of country you hunt in, and how far you shoot, the differences may be significant or non existent.

accuracy will determine "max" range. as far as killing game, ask the dead deer?? both are proven cartridges.

Max range for a bullet fired at an angle is approximately four miles.

How far one can hit something can only be determined by the shooter. For big game it could be 50 yards or 1000.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

For my 30-06 hunting load, 400 yards is the maximum range I can deliver a reliably expanding bullet.  For me, 300 is about the max I trust myself to deliver that bullet where I want it.
